Hello There!
I am Michelle Carrington, a licensed nutritionist and owner of Carrington Nutrition, Inc. My goal is to become a partner in people’s quest to feel better, look better, and be their best. I meet clients where they are most comfortable and provide specialized nutrition consultations focused towards helping them set and achieve measurable goals.
My primary focus~
As a licensed nutritionist in the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia (Maryland License: #DX3756, District of Columbia License: #NU00000174), I provide nutritional support for diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and weight management as well as the prevention of these conditions. Good nutrition is integral to the effective treatment and prevention of these conditions. I believe healing starts by looking at what you eat, how you eat, where you eat, how you feel before, during and after you eat and how you care for yourself.
My journey~
Side effects from a severe Vitamin D deficiency and a family history of obesity, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and cancer triggered my desire to clean up my eating habits. Yes. That’s a lot of risk factors! Oh, did I mention that I suffered from cystic acne too! Too many of my family members didn’t look well or feel well including myself.
In hindsight~
I didn’t realize until I was well into my studies for a Master’s Degree in Integrative Health at Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH) that poor nutrition was a major contributor to my bad skin and me not feeling my best. I was eating and drinking foods with lots of sugar and not enough fresh fruits and vegetables. My diet consisted of way too much-fried foods, gravy, lots of rice and vegetables that were cooked way too long and packaged pre-made meals. My wake-up call was the Vitamin D deficiency which started me on the path to better health (and eventually better skin). The Masters degree was my ticket to help others!
The knowledge gained from my studies along with 1000 hours of supervised practice conducting individual nutrition consultations in various clinical settings, providing nutrition education to children and adults and mentoring fellow nutrition students provided me insights on the importance of treating the whole individual. Food is just a part of the solution. Lifestyle, family history and any existing health conditions are also factors in a person’s wellbeing. This is integrative nutrition!
